definition
The term
" street child " problem. Street not birth noted a street child in
the city of Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso. The street children can be defined
according to UNICEF ( United Nations Fund for Children ) based on the following
parameters:
• They live
in the city
• Family
relationships are reliable if they exist
• Children
develop survival strategies
• The street
is their main habitat and replaces the family as a forum for socialization
• Children
are exposed to significant risks specific .
" These
children are different from children working in the street and returning daily
to their families. However, they have common characteristics that are related
to the life led in the street. They develop survival strategies because their
street provides resources , but it is up to them to take advantage of these
resources by taking initiatives , conducting dynamic actions to stay alive and
protect against potential threats, " as noted by this article focuses
street children in Abidjan.
Causes of
the presence of children in the street
The
situation of street children should be seen as a response to a sequence and
combination of various factors. "We think in particular the structural
factors (eg poverty , demographic explosion, rural exodus, physical and
psychological situation of urban families , injustices due to the dominant form
of globalization, schooling and non -schooling ) and relational ( submission to
daily violence , such as rejection, contempt, imitation contrary, the
obligation to deviant behavior or the highest tender seduction thereof ) "indicates
that article.
The direct
causes that can explain the stay of children on the street in various cities of
African countries and the third world countries are among others: - The "
foster" children tutors - Abuse - Armed conflict - The disagreements in
marriage , separations and difficulties in parenting - the direct consequences
related to STI / HIV - poverty
Children and
street youth are a reflection of the societies in which we live. Poverty ,
disease, lack of education , wars and child labor are all factors that precipitate
each year thousands of
children to media other than their family. The arrival
of these street children aged between 5 and 16 years. It is not uncommon for
them to survive several months or even several years. The street becomes their
home they had to flee their own. They are sometimes found as a family ( a
brother and sister , etc. . ) .
The world
has , according to UNICEF, at least 100 million of these children and young
people living and sleeping on the streets , parks and abandoned buildings , seeking
a little warmth , comfort and safety. Continent most affected by this
phenomenon are Asia , Africa and Latin America. The latter alone has 30 million
young people . In several countries such as Colombia, Brazil and Guatemala ,
paramilitary groups still eliminate those children who did not choose to live
on the street , but who are found by the force of circumstances.
The
conditions in which these young people are surviving substantial social,
economic , political and religious structures of our societies. Agrarian
reforms, neo -liberal policies , the constraints imposed by the World Bank and
the International Monetary Fund (IMF) , the conservatism of many states and
their silence at the situation of their youth are direct causes of the
depletion of populations of the world.
Canada does
not currently trading the percentage he had promised to give to international
aid. Yet Canadian mines , which hold a large number of mining production in
Latin America, show profits more important, enough to want to move women and
children in the Petén in Guatemala, after 25 years ...
Although our
modern societies are not immune to this phenomenon ( 150,000 homeless people in
Canada) , age and the conditions in which these children bathe Another World
show a very different picture than what we are accustomed .
Street , for
these children, it is their middle socialization , their home ( a park, a
street corner ) , their playground . They survive as a family they have left or
fled them for a long time
They 5,10 or 17. What unites them is the world in
which they live , which could give them the chance to just be kids . They are
there for a few days to a few years and live in these areas as we live in our
homes. The street life is a winding path where sadness , loneliness and rejection
are part of everyday life. They are only children and despite their living
conditions and their age , they share and help each other. In the street, it is
also the joy, hope and wisdom found in having the privilege to work with.
